14. The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera is a novel by the French based on what I've reseach and to see in the movie. The writer's named Gaston Lerou. It was the first published as a serialisatin in be Gaulois from Sept. 23, 1909 to January 8, 1910. It was published in volume from April 1960 by Pierre Lafitle. This novel is pastly inspired by the historical events at the Paris opera during the nineteenth century and an apocryphal tale concerning the use of a former ballet pupil's skeleton in Carl Maria Von Weber's 1841 productin of Per Freischutz. Now a days, it is overshadowed by the success of its various stage and film adaptations. The most notable of these are 1925 film depiction featuring Lon Charey and Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical. Opera singer Christine triumphs at the Gala on the night of the old manager's retirement. Her old chldhood friend, Raqoul, hears her sing and recalls his love for Christine. At this time, there are 0rumors of a Phantom living at the opera and makes himself known to the managers through letters and male volent acts.

Sometimes after the Gala at Paris opera performs Faist with the prima donna carlotta playing the leads against the Phantom's wishes. During the performance, Carlotta loses her voice and the grand chandelier plummets into the audience. Christine is kid napped by the Phantom and is the taken to his home in the cellars of the opera where he reveals hid true identity to her simply as Erik, though not his real name. He plans to keep her there for a few days, hoping she will come to love him. But she causes Erik to change his plans when she on masks him and to the honnor of both, beholds his noseless, lipless, sunken-eyed, covered in yellowed dead flesh. Erik allow then to esape, though not before making Christine promise that she will visit him once on his death day, and turn the gold ring he gave her. He also makes her promise that aftrewards she will go to the nwespaper and report his death. indeed some time later Christine return's to Erik's liar, buries him and return the gold ring. Afterwards a local newspaper runs the simple note: Erik is dead.
